We are an analytical design agency specialized in creating conscious, sustainable experiences. Establishing emotive bonds between human and object is our science, leading to immersive spaces and unique product solutions.
The pendant lamp ‘Seedling’
reminds of an opening seed capsule releasing a seedling into its life. The
capsule mysteriously hides the light source and thus creates an optical play
for the viewer who seeks to look inside to understand it. The downward emitting
light predestines the pendant light for contract usage scenarios. When replacing the light
source, the shade can be lifted upwards freely. To be able to return the
capsule to the earth after its lifespan, only compostable materials were used. Thus the shade can transform to
earth, which in turn represents new breeding ground for tree seeds.
Since smart devices came available in the 2000s we increasingly integrated them into our personal lives, our jobs, our daily habits. They play an essential role in our daily communication and handling them became a new need. We have to find new ways of arrangement and integration for us to utilize the their full workflow potential. In order to gain visibility and order we developed a desk organizer which displays smart devices next to notebook screens and desktop monitors.

FRUITS OF COMPUTATION
The lampshade “Artificial Fruit" is one of a series of shapes created in the course of working with digital surface modelling. A new tool which makes it possible to imitate botanical shapes, windings of washed-out coralstones or scale structures enables us to bring about a new aesthetic which evokes associacions and emotions naturally. In the case of this lampshade, the use of PLA; a biodegradable sugar-based plastic; produces a man-made product that comes close to a naturally grown fruit within its concept. The 3D-printed lampshade can alter any conventional pendant lighting socket using a “SnapOn" feature, developed by the studio.
In this project we received the opportunity to design a floorlamp of rough, honest materials individually for a residential house. Consequence and thoughtfulness of the design measures, were the important guides the client addressed to us. As a result, the base consists of a solid piece of waterjet-cut stainless steel with the cut edges left rough. A horizontal drilled hole guides the transparent thin cable through the material to reach the 8mm rod, the lampshade is elegantly residing on.
WIR II PLANET
Sector: Cover Artwork Client: ALLE ACHTUNG Year: 2018 Disciplines: art direction, graphic design
Mid 2018 we were approached
by the Austrian band ALLE ACHTUNG to art direct and create the visual language
for their upcoming 2018 album & release called “WIR II PLANET” (WE II
Still with a rough and original indie rock sound, the music of the new album
features also pianos and strings supporting the theme. Their music tells about
the complexity of emotions in relationships.
After extensive listening to their music we developed a feeling which kind of
visual direction would suit the theme. It was set from the beginning that the
result would have to incorporate all three aspects of the album’s title. We
used the overall round shape in combination with NASA satellite imagery to
communicate the PLANET aspect while the WE 2 is formed by the silhouettes. The
patterns of planetary structures are also expressions of their personalities.
Approached by the Austrian furniture manufacturer Wildwood, the set of coffee tables 'Celinde' was developed as a strategic solution for the brand to reach a new design-oriented, urban clientele. Through target market analysis we created a tailored product that celebrates urban coffee culture: a set of side tables, consisting of a crossed foot construction and a flat wooden plate that functions as a serving tray. When tray is placed on the frame, it self-centers by gravity. Thus the user is guided by
the object while focusing on the served items. As the company concentrates mainly on e-commerce distribution, the products should be flat packable and very easy to assemble. Thus, the frame can be put together by hand only, using a single screw.
This is a book we designed for an interreligious community; the Katharinawerk in Basel, Switzerland. The house; designed by architect Hermann Baur in 1967; which has become a part of the peoples lives, will disappear now after decades of use.
We tried to capture the house and its character photographically, and designed a book for the inhabitants. It should function as an instrument to bring back the memories one connects with the place after the the destruction of the building.
"With the disappearance of living spaces, concealed reminiscent fragments may get lost forever, because one cannot visit the place of their origin any more."
An original idea at the core is the beginning of a process that leads, via market analysis, design, construction and prototyping, field testing and implementation, to a uniquely pratic, economic and novel symbol of value; a product that equips companies for the future.
If something special is desired in the architectural context, we offer design services from the first sketch to the completed customized work. Designs for immersive room experiences, unique business premises and private residential projects are brought to perfection by our powerful network of local partner companies.
Products often require intelligent packaging solutions that not only protect the product but also fascinate people and arouse their curiosity. Next to packaging design we also offer book- & catalouge design and brand communication measures.
EDUCATION & RESEARCH
As a 'Cradle to Cradle' certified design agency, our focus on materials research leads us through the history of resource mining and manufacturing to sustainable and future proof approaches and concepts. Our sustainability strategy of manifesting a deep relationship between man and the manufactured object has made product semantics our second field of research.
